Synopsis
The world of 19th century passionate, unconsummated love is the subject of Jane Campion's brilliant and vividly realized portrait of the final years of poet John Keats. Its examination of Keats and the one love affair of his short life, his heated romance with Fanny Brawne, is both exceptional in what it avoids, i.e. the usual clichés and mustiness of period drama. And more critically what it brings to life, characters that are real and history that is immediate.
Powered by a captivating lyricism and romantic obsession, the film is carried by exquisite performances - particularly Abbie Cornish as Fanny - and the work of Campion that transforms a seemingly outdated affair into a risky lesson about poetry, an exploration of women and intimacy, and a compelling narrative on the bonds of emotion and nature.

ترسم جاين كامبيون في هذا الفيلم ملامح عالم الحب الشغوف المتعطش في القرن التاسع عشر وبالتحديد السنوات الخمس الأخيرة للشاعر جون كيتس "النجم الساطع". وقد اتسمت دراستها المعمقة لحياة كيتس وقصة حبه الوحيدة مع فاني براون في حياته القصيرة الأمد بالتميز والاستثنائية بفضل ما قامت بتفاديه أي الكليشيهات المبتذلة وبلادة تلك الفترة ولكنها قامت من ناحية أخرى بإنعاش جوانب أخرى تمثلت في شخصيات واقعية وتاريخ مباشر.
الفيلم المفعم بغنائية آسرة واستحواذ رومانسي معزّز بأداء رائع للممثلة آبي كورنيش بدور فاني وبمهارة كامبيون التي تحوّل علاقة حب مرّ عليه الزمن ظاهريا إلى أمثولة مشوبة بالمخاطر تتحدث عن الشعر, وتستكشف طبيعة المرأة وحياتها الحميمة, وقصة قهرية تجمع بين العواطف والطبيعة.
