Synopsis
Considered one of the most important Egyptian movies ever made,
The Mummy is based on the true story of the Horabat tribe, an upper Egyptian clan that regularly robbed a tomb of pharaohs to sell the artifacts on the black market.
Shadi Abdel Salam directs with a precise and careful hand. His desolate imagery works poetically with the haunting movement of the camera and the ominous music of Mario Nascimbene in a way where you can see everything fall perfectly into place. Made in 1969, the film was restored in 2008 by the Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Foundation. How fitting that a film that explores the past, present and future can truly make some history.

Restored in 2008 by The World Cinema Foundation at Cineteca di Bologna/L'Immagine Ritrovata Laboratory with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture from the original sound and camera negative preserved by the Egyptian Film Centre. Director's Bio
Born in Alexandria in 1930, Shadi Abdel Salam is considered one of the most important and influential Egyptian filmmakers of all time. Director of a dozen films, Shadi Abdel Salam was also a noted historian and costume designer whose cross-disciplinary excellence contributed to the richness of his films. He died in 1986.

يعتبر فيلم المومياء من أهم الافلام في تاريخ السينما المصرية وهو يستند إلى قصة حقيقة لقبيلة الحربات بصعيد مصر التي اعتادت سرقة مدافن الفراعنة وبيع ما تجده من تحف في السوق السوداء.
ويبرز المخرج شادي عبدالسلام بمهارته الدقيقة والمتأنية. وتعانق الصور البائسة بشاعرية حركة الكاميرا المتكررة والموسيقى المنذرة بالمآسي التي ابتدعها ماريو ناسكيمبيني بما يركب عناصر الفيلم كلها تركيبا متقنا. أنجز هذا الفيلم في العام 1969 وأعادت مؤسسة السينما العالمية لمارتين سكورسيزي تأهيله في العام 2008. ويرى المشاهد بعينه كيف يمكن لفيلم يستكشف الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل أن يترك بصماته على التاريخ.

أعادت مؤسسة السينما العالمية تأهيل هذا الفيلم في العام 2008 في مدينة السينما في بولونيا /مختبر إعادة تأهيل الصور (L'Immagine Ritrovata Laboratory ) بدعم من وزارة الثقافة المصرية انطلاقا من الموسيقى التصويرية والصور السلبية المحفوظة لدى مركز الأفلام المصرية. وتحظى مؤسسة السينما العالمية برعاية الخطوط القطرية , وهيئة قطر للمتاحف, وكارتييه, وأرماني.

السيرة الذاتية للمخرج:
ولد شادي عبدالسلام في الإسكندرية في العام 1930 ويعتبر أحد أهم المخرجين المصريين في تاريخ السينما. قام بإخراج أكثر من عشرة أفلام وكان أيضا مؤرخا ومصمّم ملابس مشهورا ساهم تميزه المتعدد التخصصات في إثراء أفلامه. توفي في العام 1986.
