Synopsis
Criticizing the Iranian government through film is no easy task. In No One Knows About Persian Cats (Kasi az gorbehaye irani khabar nadareh), filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi, known for his advocacy for freedom of expression, creates a vivid, eye-opening portrait of a country that can be especially frustrating for its young people.
Penetrating the underground music movement in Tehran — underground because Western Rock and solo female voices have been strictly banned for 30 years — Ghobadi’s film follows a teenage boy and girl as they try to form a new band. More than arguing issues of migration and repression, Ghobadi’s ‘Persian Cats’ has been described as a love/hate letter to Tehran itself.

Director's Bio
Born in the Iran-Iraq border city of Baneh, Kurdinstan, Bahman Ghobadi is considered Iran’s leading Kurdish filmmaker. His debut feature, A Time for Drunken Horses, was thrice awarded at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival including the Caméra d’Or. Also the director of shorts and documentaries, Ghobadi is now in post-production for his third feature.

ليس من السهل انتقاد الحكومة الإيرانية في فيلم. ولكن في فيلم "لا أحد يعرف شيئا عن القطط الفارسية", يقوم المخرج باهمان غوبادي المعروف بدفاعه عن حرية التعبير بابتكار صورة قوية فاضحة لدولة يمكن أن تسبّب الكبت لمواطنيها الشباب على وجه الخصوص. ومع دخوله إلى حركة الموسيقى تحت الأرض في إيران – تحت الأرض لأن الموسيقى الغربية وأصوات النساء ظلت محظورة لثلاثين سنة – يتبع غوبادي في فيلمه مراهق ومراهقة في أثناء تشكيلهما لفرقة موسيقية جديدة. وقد عالج فيلم "القطط الفارسية" موضوعات جدلية عن الهجرة والقمع إلا أنه قيل عنه أيضا بأنه رسالة حب/كراهية إلى طهران.

السيرة الذاتية للمخرج
ولد باهمان جوبادي في كردستان عند الحدود الإيرانية العراقية وبالتحديد في مدينة بانيه, وهو يعتبر أبرز المخرجين الأكراد في إيران. بدأ مسيرته الإخراجية في فيلم "زمن للأحصنة السكارى", وحصل على ثلاث جوائز في مهرجان كان الدولي للأفلام في العام 2000 بما فيها جائزة الكاميرا الذهبية. كما أنه يخرج أفلام قصيرة ووثائقية ويقوم حاليا بالانتهاء من إنتاج فيلمه الثالث.
