Synopsis
French director Anne Fontaine tackles the early days of fashion icon Coco Chanel in this rich and taut retelling of her life, pre-empire. From humble beginnings, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel followed her heart in pursuit of love (however tumultuous) and art.
From cabaret performer to seamstress to quiet rebel, Audrey Tautou gracefully embodies the reluctant courtesan and budding genius who refuses to conform and is driven to succeed. Rounding out the dynamic cast are Benoît Poelvoorde, as the doting heir Étienne Balsan, and Alessandro Nivola, his British colleague.
A feast for the eyes, the film meticulously captures the fashion of the time to crisp perfection. Perhaps drawing inspiration from her own creative roots as an actor, writer and director Fontaine crafts an elegant yet penetrating portrait of a modern woman whose personal quest for freedom and style defined and immortalized her.

تعود المخرجة الفرنسية آن فونتين إلى الأيام الأولى لأسطورة الأزياء كوكو شانيل في رواية متجددة لحياتها الغنية والمضطربة. فجابريل التي أصبحت تعرف فيما بعد باسم كوكو شانيل تنتمي إلى أصول وضيعة ولكنها سعت للفوز بحبها (مهما كان هائجة) وفنها. فارتقت من راقصة في بار إلى خياطة ومن ثم إلى ثائرة بسيطة. وقد لعبت هذا الدور أودري توتو فجسدت بكل أناقة شخصية امرأة متحررة وعبقرية ناشئة ترفض قبول التقاليد وتسعى بكل قوتها لتحقيق النجاح. وينضم إلى أبطال هذا الفيلم بونوا بولفورد في دور إيتيان بالسان وأليساندرو نيفورا في دور زميله البريطاني.
يصوّر هذا الفيلم أزياء الحقبة المنشودة إلى حدود الكمال. ولعلّ فونتين تستلهم جذورها الإبداعية الخاصة كممثلة وكاتبة ومخرجة لترسم صورة أنيقة وجذابة لامرأة عصرية جعلها طموحها الشخصي لتحقيق الحرية والرقي في الأزياء تدخل عالم الشخصيات الخالدة.
