Amanda Palmer is Doha Tribeca Film Festival's Executive Director and lives in Doha, Qatar.
Palmer is also Head of Entertainment at Al Jazeera English, and has created, produced, directed and presented the network’s flagship arts and educational programming.
Palmer conceived Al Jazeera’s flagship entertainment programs, the award-nominated travel series, “48,” and her acclaimed international film programme, “The Fabulous Picture Show, (FPS)” which have established her as a leading cultural commentator and afforded her international recognition for her unwavering support of international and independent filmmakers.
As well as producing and hosting the shows, Amanda also leads a talented team in covering international entertainment for the network.
FPS offers a fresh perspective on the world of movies and international filmmaking. Hosted from a live cinema event, it brings filmmakers from across the world face-to-face with an international audience.
The FPS team also scours the biggest international film festivals all year round - from Sundance to Berlin, Venice, Cannes, Rome, Toronto, Marrakech, and Dubai, just to name a few - in search of the world's best films.
Palmer's career has spanned three continents in news, current affairs and entertainment journalism. Before joining Al Jazeera in 2005 she worked for CNN, the Associated Press Television Network, and as European foreign correspondent for Channel Seven Australia.
Palmer studied vocal performance at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) drama at Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) and journalism (BAComm) at Sydney's University of Technology.
She currently serves on Qatar’s National Film Committee.
